Mostly-text PDFs and simple forms may fit 500 KB after metadata cleanup and object-stream rewrite.
If the PDF is already compact, the output may stay near the original size even after checking it against 500 KB.
This build does not downsample embedded images or rasterize pages, so it will not force image-heavy files to a target.
